Meyer | Shumrick is a civil and commercial litigation firm built around construction disputes. Founded by two litigation attorneys — Jean Meyer and Michael Shumrick — the firm concentrates on three things: construction defects, commercial disputes between property owners and contractors, and the business conflicts that grow out of both.

Two states, one practice

Montana is home ground. From our Bozeman office we represent homeowners, HOAs, and property owners across the state — Bozeman, Big Sky, Billings, Missoula, Great Falls, Whitefish — in defect and contract disputes shaped by Montana's soils, weather, and construction standards.

Texas marks the second chapter of our firm's growth. Attorney Cody Crowley has opened and leads our Dallas office, establishing the firm's presence in Texas and representing clients in construction-related disputes. Texas has its own distinct body of construction defect and lien law, but the mission remains the same: protecting property owners and holding construction professionals accountable.

How we work

Construction disputes are won through a command of the facts, a thorough understanding of the law, and the ability to prove a case. We investigate how and why construction failures occurred, work with qualified experts to establish responsibility, and develop the evidence necessary to hold the responsible parties accountable.

Our approach is deliberate and results-driven. We identify the parties responsible, evaluate available insurance coverage and sources of recovery, and pursue resolutions that reflect the actual cost of the harm. We recognize that litigation is expensive and that a negotiated resolution is often preferable — but not at the expense of a client's interests.

We prepare cases for trial, not simply for settlement. When a reasonable resolution is unavailable, we are prepared to litigate through verdict and appeal. That willingness to try cases — and the preparation necessary to do so — is often what makes a meaningful settlement possible.
